  • About The Role

  • Are you passionate about helping people make positive changes and build a healthier future?

Join us as a Health and Wellbeing Practitioner at HMP Brixton, working full-time (35 hours per week) to deliver vital drug and alcohol recovery support to men in prison. You’ll play a key role in helping people address substance misuse, improve their wellbeing and prepare for a positive future beyond prison.

    What you’ll be doing

    • Manage a caseload, completing assessments and developing individual care and recovery plans.
    • Deliver one-to-one interventions, group sessions and structured treatment programmes.
    • Provide harm reduction advice and support to people experiencing drug and alcohol misuse.
    • Work with healthcare professionals and partner agencies to coordinate care and support successful resettlement.
    • Monitor progress, maintain accurate records and contribute to service targets and quality standards.
    • Identify risks and safeguarding concerns, helping to ensure the safety and wellbeing of service users.

    What we’re looking for

    • A compassionate, recovery-focused approach and a genuine commitment to helping people make positive changes.
    • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
    • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage a caseload, prioritise work and maintain accurate records.
    • A proactive, flexible approach and a commitment to safeguarding, confidentiality and continuous development.

Professional development: Completion of the 12-month Drug and Alcohol Workforce Development Programme (DAWFDP) is mandatory, providing structured training aligned with the OHID capability framework.

The service operates seven days a week, so evening and weekend working on a rota basis is required.

Ready to make a meaningful difference by supporting recovery, improving wellbeing and helping people move towards a more positive future? We’d love to hear from you!

All prison-based roles are subject to enhanced DBS checks and HMPPS security vetting. These checks can take up to 5 months to complete. Any offer of employment will be conditional upon the successful completion of both checks.

Please note if you have lived overseas within the last 5 years then checks may take longer.
